Enhancing Role of Local Government

The Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, Chaired by Senator Cynthia A. Villar in partnership with the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) spearheaded the conduct of Training-Workshop entitled: Strategic Management in Agricultural Development for Poverty Reduction: Enhancing the Role of Local Governments, and Consultative Meeting with the Philippine Association of Provincial and City Agriculturist, Inc. (PAPCA) on September 17-19, 2014 at the Villar Sipag, Las Pinas City. The meeting aimed to strengthen the role of the Provincial and City Agriculturist in contributing to poverty alleviation in the agriculture and fisheries sector. More than 60 provinces and cities across the country were present. Senator Cynthia Villar provided the keynote message while USec. Edel Guiza from the Office of the Pres. Assistant on Food Security and Agriculture Modernization facilitated the event. Also present was ATI Director Asterio “Dodong” Saliot who gave the inspirational message and Mr. Manuel Dimalaluan, Project Development Officer of ATI talked about Aqua phonics System Technology for tropical and urban areas. A study tour/lakbay aral on the various livelihood centers in Las Pinas capped the afternoon of 2nd day where the participants visited the Coco Net Weaving Center, Handloom Weaving Project, Plastic, Chair Factory from waste plastic, Organic Composting Facility and Waterlily Weaving Center to see and observed how waste management and processing can give income to residents through community enterprises.
